The Homemakers and Health Aides provide essential assistance with the goal of keeping older people with disabilities self-sufficient in their own home environments.

The Homemakers and Health Aides provide essential assistance with the goal of keeping older people with disabilities self-sufficient in their own home environments. Conversation and socialization with the individual is an important though frequently unspoken aspect of this service. The Aide may be one of the only contacts the client has with the community. Every effort is made to send the same Aide each week who gets to know the client and who knows when something is amiss.

OUTCOME DETAILS
Program success is demonstrated by the number of older adults we are able to assist with aging in place at home. Metrics tracked through records and surveys determined that during FY2016, 99% of people receiving services were able to continue living independently.

TARGET POPULATION
Low income, older adults with chronic disabilities and a lack of family/friend supports.

FUNDING
Homecare is supported by numerous funding sources including Direction Home: Akron Canton Area Agency on Aging, City of Akron, City of Cuyahoga Falls, My Care Ohio, and area foundations as well as offering services for private pay as a social enterprise.
